“Adam's often imported
draughtsmen watered down the style demanded by the brothers. Of these émigré figures
Giuseppe Manocchi was possibly the most significant: although his association
with it was short (1765–6), he decisively introduced stronger and bolder
colours to the London office. The use of dark backgrounds for Adam's Etruscan style in the interiors
of Derby House, London, Osterley Park, Middlesex, and Home House, London, may
be traced back to him.”
